TRAVEL GUIDEOverview
Today, Manchester is boosted by the hype that is a direct result
of its self-reinvention. No longer does the grime and dust of the
industrial past cloud Manchester's bright sky, and it has now become
one of the hottest visitor spots in the UK. This is far from
surprising, given that Manchester boasts an exciting nightlife,
houses an eclectic dining scene, and provides colorful cultural and
entertainment opportunities along with genuine hospitality. Several
modern landmarks help enhance Manchester's modern and metropolis
outlook, and the internationally famous Manchester United soccer
team is perhaps the city's most formidable mascots. It is easy to
feel rejuvenated here in a place where optimism is the wellspring of
everyone's energy and vivacity. You will never be disappointed to
travel to Manchester.
History
The Roman established their outpost in the area that would
become Manchester in 79 AD, but it officially became a town only
after receiving the charter in 1301. Since then Manchester had
developed a prolific textile industry owing to the high production
of cotton, and ultimately became one of the cities that helped set
off the Industrial Revolution. As the 20th century started to dawn
on England, the textile industry that used to characterize
Manchester began to decline while other factors emerged to guide the
city to a new fame, some of which include sports and music. After
having recovered mentally and physically from the 1996 IRA bombing,
Manchester is now poised toward an optimistic and hopeful future.
Geography & climate
Manchester is situated in the northwest of England on a plain
adjoined to the Pennines and is about 80 km from the sea. The
weather is optimal, except perhaps up in the mountain especially in
winter which can be very cold and snowy. The peak tourist time runs
from July-August, but anytime from April to September is good to
visit in terms of weater.
